DAZL Says Thank You To NSCD

Thank You to NSCD! Over the past two month DAZL has had 7 of the Northern School Of Contemporary Dance 3rd year degree students on placement. The students have been working in the community and schools inspiring, motivating and educating the young people from DAZL. DAZL would like to thank Dawn Holgate and NSCD for this wonderful partnership between both our organisations. Henning Holm-glad delivered a 3 week Intro to Ballet course to the DAZL Middleton young people Ed Jeff worked with our DAZL Dance Artists on after-school dance clubs at Corpus Christi & Wykebeck Primary School Jenna Nathan worked with the young teenage girls at Ebor Gardens Community Centre, DAZL Diamonds (Middleton) and the Fabulous DAZL Mums. Jasmine Bennett worked with Middleton Primary School year 1 Ballet Club, Helped on the DAZL Junior Youth Dance Company and also assisted Henning on the Ballet in the community course. Maria Klungnes-berg worked with the DAZL Junior Youth Dance Company on contemporary dance. Tyler Attwood worked with the DAZL Xplode at Richmond Hill group, DAZL Xplode at Cottingley community group. The DAZL Boys and DAZL Hip-Hop Crews. Rachel Cooper worked with the DAZL Xplode at Richmond Hill group and the DAZL female  Hip-Hop Crews.   The students not only delivered and supported the dance session but they also helped create work for the young people to perform at the DAZL Christmas Jumper Benefit Evening. DAZL is happy to be continuing to work with NSCD 2016 Graduate Natasha Smith who is delivering on many of the DAZL Community Dance Programs. Natasha has not only been delivering on the regular community program but on the DAZL Competitive dance teams. This year DAZL has set up our Junior Youth Dance Company for gifted and talented young people lead by Natasha, she has also been delivering dance to the CATCH – Girls groups contracted through DAZL empowering girls from BME communities through dance.. Finally Mason Jubb NSCD 2016 Graduate and VERVE dancer is in his 3rd year with DAZL delivering on the competitive dance programs and with the DAZL Youth Dance Company assisting gifted and talented young people on vocational dance training alongside DAZL Dance Development Officer Vicky Mawson. DAZL Group Performs at Eid Celebrations

DAZL Young People from Burmantofts & Gipton took part in an Eid Celebration event entertaining the community with DANCE opened by Councillor Asgar Khan – This special celebration of Eid provided an opportunity for people from ALL faiths and communities to come and celebrate together. Friday 8 July at 4:00pm to 9:00pm, Ramgharia Sports Centre, 8 – 10 Chapeltown Road Leeds LS7 3AP The event was designed to reflect the approach to life adopted by the late Jo Cox and is a chance, at the end of Ramadam, for everyone to come together to show and share what we have in common. Eid is a special religious festival for those of the Muslim faith and the event takes a traditional focus on activities for children and sharing food together as a community. This was a FREE community celebration of the ‘festival of breaking of the fast’ a truly memorable event. DAZL supports MAX Card users So what is the Max Card? The Max Card is a discount card for foster families and families of children with additional needs. Families simply show their Max Card upon entry to a venue in order to obtain free or discounted admission. The scheme is designed to help these families save money on great days out at castles, zoos, bowling alleys and more. MaxCard aim to provide a sense of community through stimulating learning experiences and enjoyable days out for everyone. MaxCard work with local authorities and selected charities, who administer the cards to eligible families in their areas. http://www.mymaxcard.co.uk/ DAZL message to MaxCard users is to Try a DAZL dance session, classes across Leeds for anyone aged 3 -25 years. We’re here to make sure you have fun even if you’ve never danced before. DAZL can introduce you to all kinds of dance; Street, Cheerdance, Hip-Hop, Breakdance, Creative, Jazz, Contemporary and more … Express yourself, you’ll have a great time make new friends, not to mention keeping fit whilst filling you with confidence, improving your health and well-being! If young people have a max card they can access our community provision for FREE and our competitive dance provision will be charged at £1. Young people can also access holiday activity for FREE too but must book on as places can be limited. DAZL Annual Review 2015-16 Please click here to download the PDF Annual Review in full – DAZL Annual Review 1516     Some initial stats from our annual review 2015-16 • In 2015-16 we worked with 4202 young people, 77% were girls of which 1760 took part in live performance opportunities • In 2015-16 we worked with 953 boys they made up 23% of our overall activity, 698 took part in at least one performance • In 2015-16 we deliver 37 schools dance provision engaging 2518 young people • In 2015-16 DAZL participants took part in 81 performances/ events, 13 of these were non Leeds based allowing the young people to gain experiences regionally and nationally. • In 2015-16 of the 4202 young people who engaged in the DAZL program 2488 where inactive doing less than 1 hour of physical activity beyond the school day per week, excluding the DAZL session. DAZL School & Community Groups Join Forces at Middleton St Mary’s Gala 16 DAZL local community groups and After-school dance groups entertained the community at the Middleton St Marys Primary School Gala 2016.  The young people from the DAZL Diamonds who are a community dance group which runs from the South Leeds Youth Hub and DAZL’s home Tennants Hall Enterprise Centre, supported by the Inner South Community Committee performed alongside the DAZL After School dance clubs from Middelton St Marys Primary School. This program engages young people in Ballet and Cheerdance and is part of the DAZL Active 4 Life program funded by Leeds Public Health. The program aims to get inactive young people active. The groups performed to a packed gala over 400 local people organised by the schools and its wonderful PTA. DAZL staff were promoting our summer creative camp which is from young people 5-11 years at the South Leeds Hub 1st – 5th August. DAZL East Leeds Groups perform at Burmantofts Gala 2016

DAZL East Leeds Groups perform at Burmantofts Gala 2016 DAZL groups from Burmantofts perform to a packed Burmantofts Gala on Saturday 26 June 2016, The groups who are based at Richmond Hill Community (Tuesdays 5-6pm) Centre and Ebor Gardens Community Centre (Wednesdays 4.30-6pm) had the opportunity to perform there street, cheerdance and Flash Mob routines to the local community. The event was attended and opened by Local Councillors including Cllr Asgar Khan as shown the picture with the group and MP Hilary Benn. The DAZL session in the Burmantofts Area have been supported by the Inner East Community Committee and Leeds Public Health to engaged young people in more physical activities/ active lifestyles and reduced health inequalities/ inactivity in children and young people. The session have been so successful engaging the local community/ families the mums have now decided to get involved having their own dance/ fitness class at the same time as there children. The is a real positive step and a move DAZL welcomes engaging the whole family in achieving a more activity lifestyle. Community committee DAZL Gets Inner East Community Committee Funding Support 2016-17 DAZL receives funding from Inner East Community Committee to support our Inner East Program and a new session in Seacroft. The aim of the program is to improve physical activity, health and well-being in children and young people from Inner East Leeds.   Weekly program DAZL Xplode at Kentmeare Community Centre, Seacroft – 5-6pm every Tuesday (6-11years) £1 per class (Fun Streetdance class) DAZL Inspire at Dame Waterman Centre, Gipton – 5-6pm every Tuesdays (3-6yrs & 7-11yrs) £2 per class (Hip-Hop Competition Teams) DAZL Xplode at Richmond Hill Community Centre, Burmantofts – 5-6pm every Tuesday (6 -12years) £FREE Class (Fun Urban Dance Class) DAZL Inspire at Ebor Gardens Community Centre, Burmantofts – 4.30pm-6pm every Wednesdays (9-16yrs & Adults 18+) £2 per class (Hip-Hop Competition Team) DAZL Xplode at Denis Healey Community Centre, Seacroft – 4.30-5.30pm every Thursday (6-11years) £FREE class (Fun Urban Dance Class) DAZL Inspire at Dame Waterman Centre, Gipton – 4.30-6.30pm every Fridays (3-6yrs & 7-11yrs & 11-17years) £2 per class (Cheerdance Technique & Cheerdance Competition Teams) The Groups will meet weekly but also have the opportunity to take part in a summer intensive project. The projects are aimed at young people aged 6-17 years across Inner East Leeds and will be performing in the many local galas this summer including -Burmantofts, Seacroft and Lark In The Park Galas. DAZL take part in workshop with VERVE The young people from Dance Action Zone Leeds had a FREE opportunity hosted by the Northern School Of Contemporary Dance, VERVE Dance Company. The 25 young dancers from DAZL had the opportunity to work with the companies dancers in a contemporary dance workshop. We are extremely grateful to learning and participation team for this workshop and also enabling the young people to experience the schools environment.
