DAZL Youth Dance Company perform & NSCD Community Platform 2016 On Saturday 19th March 2016 the DAZL Youth Company performed #NoFilter “The obsession with the selfie” choreographed by NSCD Student Mason Jubb & DAZL Dance Development Officer Vicky Mawson. The group perform alongside RJC Dance, EXP Dance, Dance United Yorkshire, Rebuzz, NSCD Inclusive Dance Groups and community performance groups Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) hosted there annual Community Dance Platform, inviting community dance groups, youth and adult groups to perform dance work they have created  on NSCD’S Riley Theatre stage. This was a great opportunity for participants to perform work they have created in a professional dance theatre. On the performance day groups were given the opportunity to rehearse on stage with lighting and sound. In the evening they performed alongside other members of the community in a dance showcase. DAZL Youth Dance Company take part in Hull Dance #Unite2016 DAZL Youth Company was invited to take part in Hull Dance #Unite2016 at Hull College and perform #NoFilter “The obsession with the selfie”. The day was full of workshops which included House, Contemporary, Jazz and South Asian. The dancers had the opportunity to work with young people across the region in the workshops then each group learned a bow which they all performed together. The day ended in a performance/ sharing from each of the groups which was wonderful. We are so grateful for the opportunity to be involve in this event and the company came back full of inspiration and energy. DAZL Youth Company @ Leeds Trinity Fashion Show March 2016 Members of the DAZL Youth Company and Senior DAZL Hip-Hip Crew joined forces to showcase work part of the Leeds Trinity Fashion Show. The DAZL Youth Company performed #NoFilter “The obsession with the Selfie” which went down a treat with the shoppers, the company performed this twice throughout the day opening both Fashion Shows. DAZL Creative Camp February 2016 Building on the success of the last creative camp at DAZL we decided to provide another camp for February half term. The camp was aimed at 5-11 year from across the city, for this camp we teamed up with ACE – Active Club Experience (Health For All Leeds) who provided multi-sports activities on two afternoons for the young people. The young people loved working with the ACE team and feedback was that they wanted more! which is always good. The children got to take part in Arts & Crafts, Mulit Sports, Indoor and Outdoor Play, Dance, Healthy Foods workshops and finished the week with a performance and presentation to family members/ carers and other DAZL groups from DAZL. The creative camp run Monday to Friday 9.30 am – 2.30 pm and was £5 per day or £20 for the week with a BREEZE Card, Children who are looked after and carers are not charged for this provision. This camp engaged with 35 young people from across the city and we will be providing another camp over the Easter holidays and summer. if your interested in your young person having fun, making new friends, been creative and improving there health and well-being bring them along to the next DAZL creative camp.

AESOP Marketplace Website Launches DAZL presented the DAZL Model of using dance as a tool to reduce health inequalities and meet public health outcomes at the First National AESOP Arts & Health Conference at Royal Festival Hall in London. Please checkout this link to the Aesop Marketplace which has been setup to be like an online dating site. It matches health decision-makers with relevant arts in health programmes in an attractive and time-efficient way to enable the work/ conversations to happen. DAZL Youth Company @ East Riding Youth Platform The DAZL Youth Company had the amazing opportunity of performing at the East Riding Youth Platform 2016 and showing #NoFilter “The obsession with the selfie” part of our mini youth dance tour. The platform hosted performances from The East Riding Community Dance Programs across Beverley, Bridlington, Goole & Pocklington there was 120 dancers involved in the day which was a real success. This year local primary school groups were also involved, The bridling Spa was the perfect performance venue for this event as many of the young people including some of the DAZL Youth Dance Company had never performed in such a wonderful venue like this. The audience was also treated to a performance by the East Riding County Company who like DAZL have also gained a place into FRESH 2016 at CAST part of Yorkshire Dance regional youth dance, U.Dance Platform. All dance also received there U.Dance certificate to acknowledge that they had been involved in this fantastic event. DAZL Youth Company #NoFilterTour “The obsession with the selfie” The DAZL Youth Dance Company each year create a series of performance opportunities across the region creating a mini tour of the companies work. last year we had real good response from this approach and this young people gained such much experience and met some wonderful groups who we have now form partnerships/ relationship with. This work has been possible due to the involvement in the RDDN (Regional Dance Development Network) led by Yorkshire Dance.  The group is lead by Dance Development officer Vicky Mawson and NSCD Student/ DAZL Artist Mason Jubb. #NoFilter is a dance & health project that looks at the issues surrounding young people and social media. The work was funded by Arts Council England’s Grants for the Arts and the Tour is supported by Leeds Public Health and the Young people. The DATES Opening performance at DAZL 15years December 2015 Sunday 7th February 2016 East Riding Youth Dance Platform at Bridlington Spa Saturday 5th March 2016 – Leeds Trinity Fashion Show Sunday 6th March 2016 part of Hull Dance #Unite2016 at Hull College Saturday 19th March 2016 at the Norther School of Contemporary Dance Community Platform Wednesday 23rd March 2016 – North Lincs Platform, The Audetorium Grimsby Saturday 26th March 2016 – FRESH 2016 at CAST in Doncaster Friday 1st April 2016 – Phoenix Dance Theatre Yorkshire Community Platform The group will close this work in June at the next DAZL Showcase then start on new choreography over the summer for next year. DAZL presents at AESOP National Arts & Health Event

DAZL will be presenting the DAZL model as part of a national showcase of Arts in Health initiatives DAZL will be PRESENTING at the Royal Festival Hall on 5 February at the first ever National Arts in Health Conference and Showcase for Health Decision Makers. Leading speakers include Jeremy Hunt, the Secretary of State for Health, Sir Malcolm Grant, chair of NHS England, and Professor Kevin Fenton, Director of Health and Wellbeing for Public Health England. DAZL is one of 23 selected by innovative charity Aesop to demonstrate at the Royal Festival Hall the effectiveness of arts interventions in healthcare that could save the NHS and local authorities money, while improving the health and wellbeing of participants. Hey All Comp Teams This is the February half term program for all DAZL Comp Teams and when/ Where and Time of the Sponsored DanceAthon. Inspire and Goldstars have a longer class on the Wednesday at Ebor Gardens and they have a joint class on the Tuesday at Dame Fanny Waterman Centre in Gipton (Round corner from St Nicks) Please read and let Chrissie/ Amy know if your unable to make any sessions – this is a fab week for us all to get loads done. Also id your doing the week dance camp then you dont pay for your Comp Teams session as you would have already paid.
