Our Impact on The Community
Dance Action Zone Leeds, has made a significant impact in the community through its dance and health initiatives. As an organisation we focus on promoting physical health, mental well-being, and community cohesion through dance, particularly targeting young people and underrepresented groups.
The recognition by Her Majesty the Queen with the prestigious Queens Award for Voluntary Service, which is equivariant to an MBE for voluntary or community organizations, highlights the exceptional contributions DAZL has made. This award not only honours our charity’s dedication to improving lives through dance but also emphasizes the importance of volunteerism and community service.
The presentation of the award took place in June 2021, a particularly challenging time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. DAZL adapted its programs to continue supporting the community, providing opportunities for engagement and expression through dance, which plays a crucial role in mental health and social connection. The event was made more special by the presence of HM Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Ed Anderson, and Cllr James Lewis, the Leader of Leeds City Council, who recognized DAZL’s efforts during a time when many faced isolation and uncertainty.
A film documenting the award presentation is available, showcasing the charity’s achievements and the positive impact of their work during the pandemic. This recognition serves as an inspiration for other organizations and highlights the vital role that community-driven initiatives play in fostering resilience and unity in society.
