DAZL supports MAX Card users So what is the Max Card? The Max Card is a discount card for foster families and families of children with additional needs. Families simply show their Max Card upon entry to a venue in order to obtain free or discounted admission. The scheme is designed to help these families save money on great days out at castles, zoos, bowling alleys and more. MaxCard aim to provide a sense of community through stimulating learning experiences and enjoyable days out for everyone. MaxCard work with local authorities and selected charities, who administer the cards to eligible families in their areas. http://www.mymaxcard.co.uk/ DAZL message to MaxCard users is to Try a DAZL dance session, classes across Leeds for anyone aged 3 -25 years. We’re here to make sure you have fun even if you’ve never danced before. DAZL can introduce you to all kinds of dance; Street, Cheerdance, Hip-Hop, Breakdance, Creative, Jazz, Contemporary and more … Express yourself, you’ll have a great time make new friends, not to mention keeping fit whilst filling you with confidence, improving your health and well-being! If young people have a max card they can access our community provision for FREE and our competitive dance provision will be charged at £1. Young people can also access holiday activity for FREE too but must book on as places can be limited. DAZL Takes Part In Belle Isle Gala 2016

DAZL Takes Part In Belle Isle Gala 2016 On Saturday 2nd July 2016 the DAZL groups which have been supported with funding by the Inner South Community Committee.  The groups who meet at the South Leeds Youth Hub and Tenants Hall Enterprise Centre showcased work and also promoted summer activity. The dancers performed to a packed crowed from the local community of Belle Isle, the event was hosted by Windmill Primary School and the Local Ward Councillors. This was the final gala performance for the South Leeds DAZL groups as they will be working hard over the summer creating four dance films in partnership with wayne sables project. DAZL Annual Review 2015-16 Please click here to download the PDF Annual Review in full – DAZL Annual Review 1516     Some initial stats from our annual review 2015-16 • In 2015-16 we worked with 4202 young people, 77% were girls of which 1760 took part in live performance opportunities • In 2015-16 we worked with 953 boys they made up 23% of our overall activity, 698 took part in at least one performance • In 2015-16 we deliver 37 schools dance provision engaging 2518 young people • In 2015-16 DAZL participants took part in 81 performances/ events, 13 of these were non Leeds based allowing the young people to gain experiences regionally and nationally. • In 2015-16 of the 4202 young people who engaged in the DAZL program 2488 where inactive doing less than 1 hour of physical activity beyond the school day per week, excluding the DAZL session. Annual Public Health Excellence Awards The DAZL Director Ian Rodley with Public Health Minister MP Jane Ellison been recognised for ‪Excellence In Public Health‬ at the Annual celebration event in Westminster, London. DAZL strongly belives that its wonderful how dance can be at the forefront of improving the populations physical and mental health, reducing health inequalities and supporting rehabilitation of falls, this list could go on and on.   Professor Kevin Fenton and Health & Well-being Leader at Public Health England and Jan Burkhardt – Leeds Public Health/ Dance & Health Specialist and Founder of DAZL both stated that dance‬ is a fantastic way of improving the populations physical & mental health and well-being and DAZL’s work is an innovative way of doing this.   Ian was nominated by Dr Ian Cameron – Director of Public Health, Leeds City Council stating “Ian;s passion and commitment is above and beyond. DAZL East Leeds Groups perform at Burmantofts Gala 2016 DAZL groups from Burmantofts perform to a packed Burmantofts Gala on Saturday 26 June 2016, The groups who are based at Richmond Hill Community (Tuesdays 5-6pm) Centre and Ebor Gardens Community Centre (Wednesdays 4.30-6pm) had the opportunity to perform there street, cheerdance and Flash Mob routines to the local community. The event was attended and opened by Local Councillors including Cllr Asgar Khan as shown the picture with the group and MP Hilary Benn. The DAZL session in the Burmantofts Area have been supported by the Inner East Community Committee and Leeds Public Health to engaged young people in more physical activities/ active lifestyles and reduced health inequalities/ inactivity in children and young people. The session have been so successful engaging the local community/ families the mums have now decided to get involved having their own dance/ fitness class at the same time as there children. The is a real positive step and a move DAZL welcomes engaging the whole family in achieving a more activity lifestyle. Leeds Dance Partnership has a vision for Leeds to be an international centre of excellence for dance – a dancing city providing leadership in the North for the development of the art form locally, nationally and internationally. Leeds Dance Partnership Press release by Northern Ballet date Wed 13 Apr 2016 Earlier this week in Leeds, dance partners from across the city and the wider North region unveiled plans for the Leeds Dance Partnership at an event held at the Quarry Hill home of Northern Ballet and Phoenix Dance Theatre. Key stakeholders from across the region and industry were gathered together as exciting new plans were outlined that look set to put Leeds on the map as an international centre of excellence for dance. Mark Skipper DL, Chief Executive of Northern Ballet and Chair of the Partnership Steering Group explained: ‘The idea of a Leeds Dance Partnership first originated in a coming together of a number of organisations – Northern Ballet, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Yorkshire Dance, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, RJC, Balbir Singh Dance Company, DAZL and Leeds Beckett University, around a shared wish to raise the profile of the exceptional dance on offer in the city. In 2014 we became a City of Dance and we are now building on that collaboration to achieve an even greater step change in dance in the city.’ The evening set out the Partnership’s vision for Leeds to be an international centre of excellence for dance – a dancing city providing leadership in the North for the development of the art form locally, nationally and internationally. The partnership will be open to all members of the dance community, from major dance companies through to emerging independent artists, as well as other cross sector agencies with an interest and engagement in dance. It will be structured so that partners have real ownership and the ability to take an active role in driving activity forward. It is the intention of the partnership to create new resources and assets for the art form, develop more talent, create more great dance and develop artistic practice, increase access points for both participants and audiences and create more opportunities to attract the best in world class dance to Leeds. Chief Executive of the Arts Council, Darren Henley OBE said: ‘When it comes to dance, Leeds is a hotbed of creative and artistic excellence. DAZL Comp Teams Benefit Night April 2016   The DAZL Comp Teams hosted their competition benefit night (Dress Rehearsal) for all the community to come view there work prior to the competition in Blackpool on Sunday 1st May 2016.   Marie Mulvey (Parent) Loved watching gracie do her dances she loves to go to dance and thats all thanks to the amazing teachers Amy Dazl and Toni Allerton I cant thank you enough for all the hard work you have done gracie has gone from a very shy little girl to an extremely confident 3 year old in just a couple of months you guys are stars xx The 123 young dancers from Gipton, Richmond Hill, Seacroft, Ebor Gardens (East Leeds) Belle Isle, Rothwell, Middleton, Morley, Beeston, Hunslet (South Leeds) totaklly rocked we had a packed 200+ people supporting the young people and there achievements which is just fantastic. The Comp teams meet on various day all info can be found on our competitive dance page   Amazing result raising £635 last night so proud of all the DAZL Comp Teams not bad a 2 hour event – all staff, kids, parents and supporters we literally can’t thank you all enough 😀 ‪#‎WeLoveDAZL‬   New Member always welcome from 1st May 2016 – we do a Cheerdance and a Hip-Hop Competition each year plus many showcases and events.

DAZL Gets Inner South Community Committee Funding Support 2016-17 DAZL receives funding from Inner South Community Committee to support 3 New Sessions DAZL Xplode at The South Leeds Youth Hub – Saturdays 10-12noon. DAZL Xplode at Cottingley Community Centre -Wednesdays at Cottingley Community Centre and also DAZL Xplode Beeston which will be in partnership with local providers such a Hamara Centre.   The Groups will meet weekly but also have the opportunity to take part in a summer intensive project with Wayne Sables Dance and Film Company. The projects are aimed at young people aged 7-12 years across Inner South Leeds and will be performing in the many local galas this summer. AESOP Marketplace Website Launches DAZL presented the DAZL Model of using dance as a tool to reduce health inequalities and meet public health outcomes at the First National AESOP Arts & Health Conference at Royal Festival Hall in London.
