DAZL is featured in the #GiveLeeds website to support our work and also help with the NEW DAZL HQ studio in Middleton alterations for our fabulous DAZL Family. Dance opens up a world of opportunity for our children and young people. We work across Leeds, in some of the most deprived communities of our city. We use dance as a creative pathway to improve health, fitness, creativity and overall wellbeing. All DAZL activities are accessible to people of all ages and abilities. We use dance to reduce inequalities and raise aspirations – our key aims:1. Participation – Engaging inactive children and young people through high quality dance as physical activity2. DAZL & Middleton Elderly Aid bring Christmas Cheer to the community.

DAZL and our Partners/ Neighbours middleton elderly aid joined forces to provide some Christmas Cheer the the elderly in the local community. The Middleton Elderly Aid volunteers baked and handed out mince pies, whilst dressed up as Santa and his helpers. The DAZL Children danced to Christmas songs visiting Acre Court Care home and Middleton Aire Court Care home. The feedback from the resident and staff was “Its was fun and entertaining” also “What a wonderful surprise for the community” Its lovely seeing the younger and older generations coming together.

DAZL Digital Christmas Showcase

The DAZL Digital Christmas Celebration event will be aired on Friday 18th December at 6pm on Vimeo. We want to end this year by bringing some joy and entertainment to the community. This is our thank you and a way to celebrate all our funders, children, young people and their families continued support of DAZL and commitment to dance. We are working with Wayne Sables and the DAZL Community Team to bring you performances created in lockdown 2 and sharing films created in lockdown. Thank you to everyone and we hope you will join us online #DAZLdigital Special guest performance by our Carr Manor High School After School Dance Club. This digital event is supported by Leeds Public Health, Leeds Community Committee Youth Activity Fund and National Lottery Community Fund.

School Games Year 7 Dance Competition – in association with Dance Action Zone Leeds

It’s time to get creative and competitive! We’re challenging groups of between three and 12, year 7 children to come up with their own dance routine. It could be inspired by TikTok, and children can choose the music themselves. Check out the guides for more details, and the video from Dance Action Zone Leeds for some tips. HOW TO TAKE PART• Groups of 3 – 12 Year 7’s to create a dance routine. These can be Tik-Tok style or anything the students want to do! The song choice can be determined by the participants.• Please click here to watch the instructional video put together by DAZL and how to incorporate these and read the guidance in this document.• To submit the video, simply share the dance routines on Instagram or Twitter tagging in @DanceActionZoneLeeds (Instagram ) / @DAZL_Leeds (Twitter) and @YorkshireSport (Instagram and Twitter) and using #WYSGDanceComp and #SYSGDanceComp for South and West Yorkshire Schools. The deadline to submit videos in 4pm on Friday 12 February.• The videos will be judged by the DAZL Street Games Group and the winners will be announced on Friday 19 February. The winners will have the opportunity to take part in DAZL’s next dance event and will be asked to perform their routine at our next West Yorkshire School Games Festival when they are back in the calendar! National Lottery Community Fund, Supports DAZL Digital Mental Health Project

In lockdown DAZL continued with the supporting of young peoples mental health through a digital project supported by the National Lottery Community Fund Here are a series of 1 min Mental Health awareness dance films created by Choreographers Mason Jubb and Chloe Young, Filmed by Wayne Sables During lock-down with the support of the National Lottery Community Fund, DAZL created a podcast with young people hosted by Wayne Sables. A new podcast is released every Monday at 12 noon by a different young person.
